Final evaluation

In general I am very happy to be in Solent University. It was a wonderful journey in these three months. I learned much about English culture and Southampton city, which is a lovely place to live. I came here to learn more about the makeup and hair and get skills in practice of doing it. I attended in all lectures not only because I was thinking about the attendance, but I found it very interesting. I have been attended in every lecture with a joy and interest to learn something new. I have enjoyed exploring about Elizabethans era. It was interesting to find out what cosmetics and what kind of hairstyle people had in the past. I also like an idea to work in groups. Consequently, I got better communicating skills. Finally, I feel I have done a good combine between traditional Elizabethan and contemporary look. I never knew that I will ever going to like to do the hair that much. I really enjoyed of doing plaits, padding and using other techniques. I also have learned how to manage different types of hair. I think that this project gave me a lot of benefits for further works. Even sometimes I struggled in doing blogs I am sure that it gave me better understanding in writing and work sorting.

My design and assessment for my partner

Antonelas work for my design was quite good as well. She managed to fulfill my idea for the hair, except the curls in the front. We did not practice enough on my design, due to that circumstance she could not made exactly what I wanted.
Finally, I think that we were a good team. We attended in all lectures and done much practice on each other. Cooperation was easy and I would be happy to work with her again in the future.

The assessment

And here came the assessments day. I was prepared and quite confident about everything. Before the assessment we got some time to crimp the hair. Antonella has a long hair, so I needed to crimp it. When the assessment started we got 10 minutes to prepare our stations (to put all brushes, clips, ribbons or other accessories we needed to uses). I put the white napkin on the table and put some clips and pearls that I needed to use on Antonellas hairstyle design. I attached the chart and notes on the mirror to remind me what to do. I also used the cosmetic belt, so I put brushes and some bigger clips on it. We had to wear black clothes to look professional, so I wore black top, pants and shoes. My own hair  was tight back as it had to be. Our lecture was looking at our stations and marked down how we were working.

I think the design looks nice and I made it nicely and tidy. I was the first one who finished the whole hairstyle. I am happy and I hope to get a good grade.

Inspiration for contemporary Elizabethans hairstyle

I like those round curls around the face. I am thinking to use this idea for my final look, but I will use just few of those curls.

For contemporary look I want to use straight hair.

The opposite plait on model

O love opposite French plait! It is quite easy to make, but it looks very nice. You just need to plait opposite way. Instead of taking hair sections over , you have to take under. And during plaiting you have to slightly pull the plait sideways. Then the plait looks big and nice.

Diagonal Bow braid

I saw this braid somewhere before and I really wanted to learned to do it. So I took my dolls head and I practiced on it, First of all I made a simple french plait and I left spare part of hear next to french plait. Then I took the pin and inserted into the plaits twist. I took a small part of hair from that section and reinserted through that hairpin and made the ribbon. I left the end of hair above the french plait. So I repeated all that until the french plaits end. And here is my work.

And then I did it on my project partner Antonella.

Wiggle plait and backcombing

This time we learned wiggle plait, which looks really nice and it is very easy to do. First of all you have to plait simple plait and in the end of the plait hold one of three parts of hair and push it up. That is how you make it. Here is the picture of my work in the class.

Backcombing is very easy. You just need to take one section of the hair and gently brush hair down until you can build the hair up. Do not make a mess and try do not damage the hair. After you finished photoshoot or whatever you did, you must nicely brush clients hair before washing it. It will be easier to wash and you will not damage the hair.

Elizabethans hairstyle using padding, curling and frizzing techniques

I used all techniques (padding, curling and frizzing). In these pictures you can see my work step by step.

I tried to make a ''heart'' shape, but I think I made the left side a little bit bigger, because I crimped more hear. Otherwise it looks quite nice and symmetrical. This time I did not curled hair with curler. I used another technique with hairpins and straightener.

This is my final look. I love this curling technique, because it comes out really nice curls. By the way I did not use any hairspray. But when I will make my assessment final look I will use it. Then I will hide all bristling hair.

Padding, curling and frizzing techniques

We learned how to make Elizabethans hairstyle using padding, curling and frizzing techniques. First of all I took a section of hair from the front and curled them. After each curl I put a clip on in that it would hold until the curl gets cold.

Then I took another section of hair and crimped them.

I took third section of hair and plaited a french plait.

Both sides.

I have got hand made pad (nylon sock stuffed with paper). And I fastened it with clips on plaits.

Then I took crimped hair and covered the pad.
Finally I took all curls and nicely spread them on the top of frizzed hair attaching clips. And here we go- nice and splendid hairstyle.

I made hairstyle using pads on real hair.
